Brief Summary
This project requires students to develop a unique concept for a hardcover printed book dealing with someone whom they perceive to be a person of worth or a person whose story is worthy of telling. Students are required to conduct in-depth research
on/with the subject, develop an editorial concept and narrative strategy, write partial original text, develop a design concept, execute imaging components, and produce convincing prototypes of the book.
Deliverables
- A3 presentation boards
- dust jacket/outer cover and inner cover (front, spine and back on one sheet)
- two different endpapers
- title page
- imprint/copyright page
- contents page/s
- one completed chapter
- three additional chapters
Rationale
This book features some of the weird and wonderful stories of Habib Chatti. Following his early years of extensive travel all the way to his later successes in the world art and design.  The book features sketched out illustrations of notable moments from Habib’s life. The loose, freehand style speaks to how Habib’s life was never static and was constantly changing and uprooting. The broad and stylized colour application speaks to Habib’s imaginative and creative outlook on life even in seemingly mundane situations.
Style Development
Initially I wanted to create this book in the style of an illustrated travel journal, with loose illustrations and a script font to imitate that of handwriting. The readability experienced in this endeavor however was poor and both typography and layout had to be reconsidered.
